A new Andy's Frozen Custard drive-through restaurant was approved by the Mount Prospect board of trustees on March 16.
The restaurant will be located at 205 E. Rand Road.
The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the request to rezone the lot from B1 Business Office to B3 Community Shopping. The commission also considered the conditional use permit for the drive-through, a variation on the parking lot setback and the neon lights along the roofline on the front and side.
After consideration, the application was approved by the commission and moved forward to the board of trustees, which also approved the conditional use permit and variations.
Andy's Frozen Custard is a dessert-only franchise that originated in Osage Beach, Missouri, in 1986. John and Carol Kuntz started their own store after tasting frozen custard in Wisconsin. The fresh frozen custards are served within one hour of being made. The baked components -- brownies, pies and cookies -- are baked fresh daily in the store. No syrups or sauces are used in the desserts, only real fruits.
With the approval of the village board, the franchise owner can now move forward with the restaurant. All other village codes and regulations must be fulfilled before the restaurant can open.
