The Design Review Subcommittee will hear and review applications at tonight's meeting.

Three applications will be heard and reviewed at tonight's Elgin Heritage Commission Design Review Subcommittee (DRSC) meeting.

The public is invited to attend the meeting at 6 p.m. today, March 22, in the City Council Chambers at 150 Dexter Court.

Applicant Juan Estrada returns to the DRSC with a Certificate of Appropriateness request for replacement windows at 418 Lowrie Court. The DRSC denied the first application on Feb. 23. Estrada has researched and obtained estimates for replacement windows that meet the subcommittee's specifications.

Property owner Sergio Vasquez has submitted an application to demolish the existing garage at 159 S. Channing St. and replace it with a new garage -- the old garage has collapsed. Code enforcement requires immediate removal of the unsafe structure. Vasquez has applied for a Certificate of Appropriateness for the replacement garage, which will be located in the same place. The existing asphalt driveway will be extended to provide access to the new garage.

The owner of 477 Arlington Ave., Danielle Jacobson, has requested a Certificate of Appropriateness to install a new six-foot privacy fence. The fence would be on the north, south and west sides of the house, which would enclose the rear and both side yards. She would like to replace the existing privacy fence on the side yard with a fence that will match the fence at 476 S. Liberty St. At issue is the height of the fencing for the side yard. The city code requires that the fence past the rear corner of the house should be no taller than 42 inches.
