To maintain twice weekly pickup, residents must call Groot before March 1.

The Village of Arlington Heights recently announced a change in refuse collection, which will commence on April 1.

The new contract with Groot changes the twice-weekly refuse pickup to once weekly. Residents who wish to continue with a twice-weekly refuse collection can add the service by contacting Groot at vah@groot.com or calling 800-244-1977 before March 1. There is an additional charge for twice-weekly pickup.

Groot will deliver new 95-gallon refuse carts to single-family residences during the last two weeks of March. There is no charge for the carts. Residents who previously subscribed for a refuse cart will no longer be charged for the cart; they will keep the cart. Smaller 65-gallon and 35-gallon carts are available to residents who do not need a large cart. Residents must contact Groot to request a smaller cart.

In addition to the schedule changes, residents can choose stickers for landscape waste, or subscribe to a 65-gallon or 95-gallon cart. The landscape waste cart can also be used for recycling-approved food scraps.

Groot's new billing began in January. The first-quarter billing was at the 2015 rates; the next bills will be at the new rates. Brochures were sent to all households with the new rates, as well as information on the landscape waste and recycling options.
