Board President Bob Bielinski emphasizes the ways citizens can participate in village affairs.

Village Board President Bob Bielinski recently published a letter to the citizens of Wilmette in The Communicator.

In the letter, he focused on the village government and how residents can participate in village affairs.

The village earned a perfect score on the Illinois Policy Institute's (IPI) online transparency checklist. It maintains a website where residents can find links to financial information, meeting agendas and minutes, requests for proposals and bids, contracts, collective bargaining agreements, and other disclosures essential to providing transparency to the village government.

The online calendar also provides the date, time and location of all government meetings, including the village's annual budget process, which extends from June to October, when the draft budget is presented to the board. The village has received the Distinguished Budget Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for 17 consecutive years.

Bielinski also discussed land use, the zoning ordinance and the process of reviewing and granting variations. Public hearings are held to hear input from neighbors and residents regarding zoning variations.

"I encourage all residents to sign up for our weekly e-news by visiting wilmette.com or texting 'WILMETTE' to 22828, to attend village board meetings and to contact the village staff or members of the village board with any questions, concerns or suggestions you may have," he said.
