The Arlington Heights board has approved Legat Architects to design the new police facility.
The Village of Arlington Heights board selected Legat Architects as the designer for the new police station at its Feb. 15 meeting.
Legat Architects will work with McClaren Wilson Lawrie to design the new facility and create plans for its construction.
The current building, located at 200 E. Sigwalt Ave., was opened in 1979. At 38,000 square feet, it lacks space to accommodate the department's needs. The building needs extensive repairs to the electrical, mechanical and plumbing. The feasibility study performed last year found that a 70,000-square-foot facility would accommodate the operational needs of the department.
The estimated cost of the new facility's construction is $27.9 million. The contract for the architectural firms for the building design and plans is worth $1.65 million. The village board approved a $32.9 million bond for the project at its meeting in January.
Legat Architects and McClaren Wilson Lawrie bring more than 50 years of experience to the design team. Legat Architects has extensive experience with public sector clients, while McClaren Wilson Lawrie specializes in designing police and public safety facilities.
