The commission will meet tonight and discuss updating Title 15 of the Village building code to the 2014 National Electrical Code.

The Village of Buffalo Grove Electrical Commission meets at 6 p.m. tonight, Feb. 8, to discuss updating Title 15 of the Village municipal code to the 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC).

The current building code conforms to the 2005 NEC and its updates.

The NEC is part of the National Fire Codes, which are published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Also known as the AMSI/NFPA 70, the NEC is the standard for safe practices in installing electrical wiring and equipment. It is not a federal law. States and municipalities use the NEC as a guideline in standardizing building codes to ensure safe electrical practices. The NEC is updated every three years.

Adding the updated 2014 NEC to the village building code ensures that new construction and renovations adhere to the latest safety guidelines. The commission will discuss and possibly recommend the change to the village board of trustees.

The public is welcome to attend the Electrical Commission meeting at the Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. If a person with disabilities needs accommodations to attend or participate in the meeting, contact the ADA coordinator at 847-459-2525.
