Sister Cities Commission recently met to discuss the Sister Cities of Illinois conference and Kinver Friends visit.
The City of Park Ridge Sister Cities Commission recently met to discuss the latest updates in the Sister Cities events for 2016.
The commission announced the Sister Cities of Illinois Conference, which will be held April 8 and 9.
The Kinver Friends visit is scheduled for Sept. 8 through 15. The commission organized committees to plan tours and events for the group. Comments were heard, and then the commission brainstormed old and new ideas. The timeline for action was discussed and drafted.
Park Ridge's sister city is Kinver, England. The picturesque village lies two hours northwest of London and has approximately 8,000 residents. It has many historic connections to Park Ridge, including the old brickyards that once spurred its economy. Today, Kinver is a "dormitory" village, or a residential community, that attracts tourists to its quaint characters as a "true English village." The sister cities exchange information and ideas on topics ranging from the arts to government to sports.
The commission also provided an update to the members. In other business, the group discussed the photography for a calendar.
