May is National Bike Month and the city of Elgin's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) has a full schedule of bike-related activities planned for the month.
National Bike Month kicks off on April 27 with a proclamation at the city of Elgin council meeting.
The schedule includes: May 4, Bike to School Day; May 8, CycloFemme Ride; May 14, Elgin Cycling Classic; May 16 through May 20, Bike to Work Week; May 20, Bike to Work Day; May 21, Guided Bike Tour of Elgin's East Side; May 26, Guided Bike Tour of Elgin's West Side; and May 29, Bike the Drive.
In addition to Elgin's activities, the BPAC encourages bicyclists to join the National Bike Challenge. This nationwide event allows users to join the national bicycling community and record their miles ridden. The bike challenge is free.
