The City of Elgin, Illinois Cultural Arts Commission (CAC) met on Nov. 9 to discuss upcoming events.
The commission heard the final report on the Elgin Theatre Company, followed by staff reports. The remaining funds in the CAC budget will be encumbered for next year's projects. Reported under the Art Showcase, the build-out of the tech room is moving forward. The commission also confirmed the 2016 season.
After the October minutes were approved, the commission moved on to Old Business. It was updated on the Riverwalk Sculpture Project, which is on hold until the 2016 budget is confirmed. The Marketing Subcommittee is working on the winter season issue of The EYE.
The commission also heard updates on the 2015 CAC projects, including the Elgin Literary Festival (ELF). The recent fundraiser for ELF continued online until Nov. 12. Side Street Studio Arts hosted the local NaNoWriMo, the annual writing event where authors write at least 50,000 words on the first draft of a novel. Plans for African-American History Month continue with the 2016 celebration focused on African-American authors, including a spoken word and open poetry night. It was suggested that the CAC should cross promote the celebration and ELF.
Under New Business, the commission moved the 2016 budget approval to the Dec. meeting, voted on the 2016 Organizational Grant Applications and decided to approve the final money tallies before taking the final proposal to the City Council. The meeting was then adjourned.
