North West Housing Partnership expands its Handyman Program

Nwhp logo 25 anniversary

Seniors and disabled residents in Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Palatine and Rolling Meadows, Illinois can request assistance with small home repairs and maintenance from the Handyman Program of the North West Housing Partnership (NWHP).

Homeowners age 65 or older and disabled persons over age 18 can have a handyman clean drains, fix faucets or toilets, install new door locks, install grab bars in bathrooms, install shelves, repair or replace light fixtures, and clean gutters. Other small maintenance chores and repairs are also eligible.

Emergency repairs, larger plumbing jobs and lawn care are not eligible for the Handyman Program. The program does not pay for the materials used in the repair or replacement. It only assists with the labor costs. The work is performed by insured, experienced professionals.

The cost of the handyman is based on income, with residents paying $10, $20 or $30 per hour. Qualifying households can also apply for a one-time grant of up to $1,500 for home modifications. Residents can call the North West Housing Partnership at 847-969-0561 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for more information or to hire a handyman.
