In recognition of its 65th anniversary, the Park Ridge Community Women received a proclamation from the City of Park Ridge, Illinois on Monday.
Acting Mayor Marty Maloney acknowledged and celebrated the group for its civic works throughout its 65 year history. The group began as the Park Ridge Chambermaids in 1955. The 25 wives of the Junior Chamber of Commerce set out to raise money for charity and successfully raised funds for what was then called the Northwest Suburban Aid for the Retarded, receiving $1 per month from 500 people.
The group's name evolved through the years, becoming the Park Ridge Community Women in 1984, but its mission remained the same. Its fundraising projects include supporting Northwestern Memorial Hospital's aneurysm research, restoring the Hodges Park fountain, and many collection drives for clothing, food donations, pet supplies and school supplies for Park Ridge charities. Group members also raise funds for many organizations, including Gigi's Playhouse, Kid Powers, Maine Center for Mental Health, the Park Ridge Fine Arts Society and the Youth Campus.
The Park Ridge Community Women continues to enrich the city of Park Ridge with its work of donating time, help and support to individuals, families and the community as a whole.
