Prospect Heights holds public hearing on proposed tax increases

Prospect Heights will hold a public hearing on Nov. 23 at 6:20 p.m. to approve a proposed property tax levy.

The hearing will be held at City Hall, 8 N. Elmhurst Road. Anyone who would like to speak at the hearing should contact Deputy City Clerk Karen Schultheis at (847) 398-6070, ext. 251.

The taxes extended or abated for 2014 were $646,032 for corporate and special purpose property taxes and $1.6 million extended for debt services and public building commission leases, for a total of $2.27 million for the city of Prospect Heights.

The taxes to be levied for 2015 are $726,400 for corporate and special purpose property taxes and $1.5 million for debt services and public building commission leases, for an estimated total of $2.26 million. These are, respectively, a 12.44 percent increase and a 5.17 percent decrease over the 2014 taxes. The estimated overall tax decrease from 2014 to 2015 for the city of Prospect Heights is 0.15 percent.
