Park Ridge Public Works recycling holiday lights, extension cords
Park Ridge Public Works wants to recycle your broken string lights and damaged extension cords through its Holiday Lights Recycling Program.
This free service invites residents to drop off unwanted or broken holiday-light strands and extension cords now through March 1, 2016, at the Public Works Service Center, 400 Busse Highway. The center's hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other holiday items, such as garlands, wreaths and other non-recyclables, will not be accepted.
After being dropped off at the Public Works Center, the recycled strands are separated, baled and sent out for chopping or shredding. The resulting product is sold to foundries and mills in the U.S. This partnership between the City of Elgin and Elgin Recycling, Inc., continues to work toward green solutions and recycling useful commodities.
