Kayleigh McEnany, co-host of the Fox News program Outnumbered, has raised concerns about the Homeschool Act (HB 2827), which she says has led to protests from homeschooling parents. These parents reportedly fear that the legislation could compel them to register their children and submit teaching materials to authorities. In a March 19 post on X, McEnany questioned whether parents can trust the state to manage such power responsibly.

"Parents in Illinois are protesting a bill that would require homeschool parents to REGISTER their children and could potentially require submitting teaching materials to authorities," said McEnany, Cohost. "What if you are a parent that teaches Creation? What if you are a parent that teaches life begins at conception? Do you trust the state of Illinois to use this newfound power responsibly?"

According to McEnany’s post on X, which included a clip from Outnumbered, she discussed what she referred to as "the long arm of government" and its influence on classrooms. She touched on issues like critical race theory, biological men in women’s sports, and transgender youth. McEnany warned that elements of the Homeschool Act could be weaponized against homeschooling parents, similar to restrictions faced by Christians in adoption opportunities. She said that the government would exploit the requirements of House Bill 2827.

House Bill 2827, known as the Homeschool Act, mandates that the Illinois State Board of Education create a homeschool declaration form for administrators to submit information to the school district where students would otherwise attend. The bill proposes penalties for students whose homeschool administrators fail to notify public school districts of their status and requires proof of immunization and health exams or a signed exemption certificate. The bill was filed by Representative Terra Costa Howard on February 5 and assigned to the House Education Policy Committee on March 4.

On the day House Bill 2827 was presented before the House Education Policy Committee, hundreds of homeschooling families gathered at the Capitol in protest, according to Fox News. The bill passed out of committee with an 8-4 vote. It now awaits a House floor vote, followed by a Senate vote before reaching Governor J.B. Pritzker's desk for signing.

Kayleigh McEnany is not only a co-host of Outnumbered but also served as press secretary for President Donald J. Trump during his first term. She joined Fox News in 2021 and holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School along with a degree in international politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
