City of Elgin Building Commission met June 13

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

MEMBERS PRESENT: John Weidmeyer, Josh Campanelli, Ulises Vazquez, John Hauserman (Plumbing Chairperson), Christopher Benjamin (Substitute for HVAC Chairperson), Pat Hines (Electrical Chairperson) 

MEMBERS ABSENT: Steve Silva 

STAFF PRESENT: Marc Mylott, Matt Falco, Gregory Moon, David Mulcahy, Joe 

Carr, John Gish, David Ganziano, Mayra Soto-Cardenas, Allyson Villa, Doug Hinrichs, Steve Taft 

VISITORS: None. 

CALL TO ORDER: 

Meeting was called to order by Matt Falco at 2:05 p.m., in the downstairs Computer Training Room at City Hall, 150 Dexter Ct, Elgin, IL. 

NEW BUSINESS: 

ELECTION OF NEW CHAIRPERSON: 

Josh Campanelli entered a motion to nominate John Weidmeyer for Chairperson of the Building Committee, the motion was seconded by Ulises Vazquez. All in favor elected John Weidmeyer. 

FIRE CODE 

John Gish shared suggestion to amendments of the 2021 International Fire Code which he had added in red text for commission review. John Gish and Marc Mylott discussed residential fire sprinkler requirements and agreed to keep as previously amended. 

2021 IRC/IBC AMENDMENTS 

Gregory Moon shared handout with commission and asked to further discuss at next meeting. 

2021 IRC R328-ENERGY STORAGE 

Staff asked commission to review this code section and brought up concerns with regards to ventilation for energy storage rooms depending on location and type of building materials used to construct the storage room. Doug Hinrichs mentioned energy storage requirements do currently exist in commercial properties. Steve Taft recommended this be further reviewed and discussed at next meeting. 

ADJOURNMENT: 

A motion was made by Josh Campanelli to adjourn the meeting at 2:27 p.m., and seconded by John Weidmeyer. The motion passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned.
