Jon Luers, the Republican nominee for the 10th Senate District, is set to compete against incumbent Ron Martwick in the forthcoming November general election.

"Luers: "Thank you to over the 5900 voters in the 10th Senate District," said Luers, Candidate for Senate District 10, according to Facebook.

In a Facebook post dated March 19, Luers expressed his gratitude towards his supporters. He wrote: "Thank you to the over 5900 voters in the 10th Senate district who made the effort to vote in the Republican primary! One precinct and probably some mail-in ballots remain to be counted, so the numbers are almost complete. Not a very big turnout, but a decent initial showing. However, comparing to the Democrat primary, where the incumbent received nearly 18,000 (3 times as many) votes, we can see there's a lot of work to do in the next seven and a half months."

According to his campaign platform, Luers' key issues include education, environmental conservation and abortion rights. On his campaign issues page, he describes public schools as "ridiculously expensive and ineffective" and suggests that failure to reauthorize the Invest in Kids school choice tax credit scholarship program exacerbates problems within the public school system.
Regarding environmental concerns, Luers argues that measures aimed at reducing atmospheric CO2 concentrations—such as eliminating carbon-based fuels and gasoline-powered vehicles—are being implemented without a coordinated plan towards an uncertain goal.
On abortion rights, Luers says: "While I do not agree with the idea of killing unborn life, I also do not feel an obligation to stop it or ban every abortion. I do think the State of Illinois should not encourage or use taxpayer dollars for any abortions."

Luers is a veteran software engineer with four decades of experience who is now turning his attention towards political service as a candidate for Illinois' 10th District Senate seat. Born in Chicago and educated at Northwestern University, he has expressed disappointment with both Illinois' trajectory under Democratic leadership and that of the nation as a whole. According to him, an increasing number of people are recognizing the Democrats’ lack of genuine concern for their welfare and are ready for significant change. On his website, Luers criticizes his opponent, State Sen. Robert Martwick (D-Chicago), describing him as a clone of Mike Madigan who benefits from a property tax appeals business while taxes increase.
