As Thanksgiving festivities wind down, the Northfield Township Republican Organization is seizing the opportunity to engage voters in a last-minute petition drive for Republican candidates.

“This is a last chance to help our Republican candidates as they get their last signatures before filing begins. Shake off your Turkey Day food coma and drop by our headquarters to sign for your Republican candidates,” the Northfield Township Republican Organization said on Facebook.

“If you’ve signed, take a couple of sheets, go into your neighborhood and get some neighbors to fill a sheet.”

“Candidates will be on hand to meet you and hopefully get you involved in their campaigns.”

“Notaries will be on hand to notarize petitions.”

“Refreshments will be served.”

The Northfield Township Republican Organization is gearing up for a Black Friday Petition Drive on Friday, Nov. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will be hosted at 1920 Waukegan Rd., Suite 210 in Glenview, according to the flyer posted on Facebook.

Commencing on Sept. 5, candidates throughout Illinois initiated the broader election season by gathering signatures for the March 19 primary ballot. According to stipulations by the State of Illinois, candidate petitions must be submitted to the County Clerk between Monday, Nov. 27 at 8 am, and Monday, Dec. 4, at 5 pm. Petitions can be delivered either in person or through the mail.

Alongside local contests, March 19 primary voters in the state will select presidential nominees for both the Democratic and Republican parties, as well as in electing delegates for the parties’ conventions scheduled for August, according to WTTW.

Among those who voiced their support for the event was one particular GOP candidate, Jim Carris. Carris, the candidate for Illinois’s 10th congressional district shared the post.

The 10th District is currently represented by a member of the Democratic Party. It is currently held by U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider.

It covers the municipalities of Antioch, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Grayslake, Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, Highland Park, North Chicago, Park City, Lake Forest, Gurnee, Zion, Libertyville, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach in Lake County; the communities of Winnetka, Glencoe; Kenilworth; Northbrook; Wheeling in Cook County; and municipalities of Spring Grove; Richmond; Hebron; Wonder Lake; and Johnsburg in McHenry County according to the district map presented in Schneider’s website.
