Raja Krishnamoorthi, who represents District 10 for Illinois, tweeted on July 14 about the unanimous decision to rename the St. Charles Post Office after Veterans who have served in Vietnam. The reason for the change in the name is to show more appreciation and recognition for our veterans who have served to protect our country.

Our nation's veterans deserve more recognition for their service to our country. That's why I'm glad my bill to rename the St. Charles Post Office in honor of veterans who served in Vietnam passed the Oversight Committee unanimously yesterday.

On March 29, 2023, Congressman Krishnamoorthi introduced his bill to rename the St. Charles Post Office in honor of veterans who have served in the Vietnam War.

He proposed the name, "Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office” as the new name for the post office. Congressman Krishnamoorthi then made a statement.

"Today, on National Vietnam War Veterans Day, I am proud to introduce this legislation to rename the St. Charles East Side Station Post Office as the Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office in recognition of the sacrifices of the brave men and women who served our nation in Vietnam," Krishnamoorthi said. "It is my hope that when members of our community visit this post office in the years to come, they will be reminded of the sacrifices of our veterans in Vietnam and that those veterans will feel a clear message from their nation: welcome home."

The response to the bill Krishnamoorthi proposed was deeply appreciated by the former veterans and the members of the post office. St. Charles Alderman David Pietryla said, thank you, Congressman Krishnamoorthi, for honoring the military personnel who bravely served in the Vietnam War. The renaming of this St. Charles Post Office as ‘The Vietnam War Veteran Post Office Memorial Post office’ is a wonderful effort to keep their memory alive and a reminder of the men and women who fought to make our Nation a safer place.” Robin Kelleher, co-founder and CEO of the national nonprofit Hope For The Warriors said, "today, is always the right time to thank and honor veterans who have served in the United States military no matter the time period they served. We know the pride that will be felt by Vietnam veterans to see the East Main Street post office renamed in their honor. We commend Congressman Krishnamoorthi for his continued support to service members, veterans and military families.”

On July 13, the bill Congressman Krishnamoorthi proposed passed unanimously by the Committee on Oversight and Accountability according to patch.com. Krishnamoorthi said, “I’m so proud of the contributions of the veterans and their families in my district and across the nation. Renaming the post office in St. Charles is a way for our community to recognize and honor the men and women who have served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our great nation."
