The ice storm that came through Elgin on Wednesday, February 22 resulted in several downed trees, branches and power outages. Our 911 center got over 300 calls! A huge thank you to our 911 operators, 311 team and our emergency management team for all of their hard work.Do you have a downed tree or branch? Here's what to do depending on the situation:- Call 911 if there is an immediate danger involving power lines.- Generally speaking, trees that are between the sidewalk and street, or ones that are located at city-owned facilities, are considered public trees. If one of these fell then please call 311 (or 847-931-6001), email elgin311@cityofelgin.org or submit a request on the City of Elgin mobile app, noting the location of the tree or limb (nearest address or intersection).- Trees growing on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. If a tree or large limb growing from private property falls, contact a professional tree service for assistance in removal. If it's a small amount, WM (Waste Management) will collect them for free on your regular collection day due to the large number of branches that were downed during the storm. Make sure bundles are tied, no longer than 5 feet, branches are less than 2 inches in diameter and bundles weight less than 45 pounds each.Power Outages:During the storm, approximately 10,481 customers lost power. As of the morning of , 52 percent of those customers have had their power restored. ComEd crews are working to restore outages. Current outage updates from ComEd are available at outagemap.comed.com. Customers can also sign up to receive outage alerts on their mobile phone. ComEd expects 80% of outages in the region to be restored by the evening of Thursday, February 23 and the majority by the evening on Saturday, February 25.
