The village of Glenview city council recently held a presentation to discuss the 2022 tax levy.
The board presented an overview of their proposed 2022 property tax levy, which includes the levy for the public library as well. The village held multiple workshops for the creation of this proposed levy, beginning back in September, going into October and the beginning of November. They also had an open house for discussions.
The board held the public hearing for the tax levy during a Nov. 15 board of trustees meeting with the public hearing for the 2023 budget on December 6. The village is capped on their levy request by either 5% or CPI for the year, whichever is lower. This year, for the first time in decades, the consumer price index (CPI) is greater than 5%. However, village officials still plan on raising the levy by less than 5% from the 2021 tax levy. The village of Glenview receives less than 7% of tax dollars paid by village residents.
The village is proposing a tax levy increase of only 2.67% this year, which would bring the total levied to $15,144,525. The library’s portion of the levy will amount to $10,194,828, which is a 2.6% increase from the previous year. Overall, the village levy amounts will increase by an average of 2.64% and will be able to fully fund municipal operations. The board approved the tentative proposal.
"The village’s increase over last year is 2.64%, but I also want to remind you that this is only the capture of new EAV growth and the annexation so there is no increase to current property taxpayers," Glenview Finance Director Erika Smith said at the meeting.
