Michelle Guzik, superintendent of Norridge School district, gives an update on school IAR results.

“So Giles ended up being exemplary and their growth, which means that they don't have any performing groups and they are in the top 10% in the state,” Guzik said during the board meeting. “Something to celebrate. It does not mean that our work is done. We have a lot of work.”

The district uploaded its Livestream of its public meeting to its YouTube channel.

Guzik presented the school’s data from the recently published state report card to the board. She reminded the board that they would be comparing the 2022 data to 2019 as it is the last set of consistent, pre-pandemic data. For ELA the district is slightly higher in 2022 than in 2019, however, in math, they have decreased in proficiency since 2019.

The board also voted to approve to increase of substitute teacher pay to $140 from $126 per day in a previous board meeting. The district operates two schools.

By grade, grades 3 and 4 show decreased growth since 2019, however, some of the higher grades show increased growth in 1 or more areas without any connection between grades. 51% of students in the district met or exceeded standards for ELA tests and 34% of students in the district met or exceeded standards for math on the IAR.

The board will meet again at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 in the gymnasium at John Leight School on 8151 West Lawrence Ave.

Comparing the district to some of the other districts in the state, Norridge was near the top for their comparative ELA growth, but they were falling towards the bottom with their comparative math growth. Leigh was put in the designation of commendable, which means they are not in the top 10% of districts but they don’t have any underperforming growth. Giles school was designated as Exemplary, meaning it is in the top 10%.
