At the Nov. 16 Fairview District 72 Board of Education meeting, the board discussed The Illinois Association of School Boards convention that was to be held Nov. 18 to 20 in Chicago with one delegate from each school district in the state.
The delegates were to vote on resolutions regarding changes to the IASB constitution, adjusting fund balances to the Miller Ratio, having the state transition to alternative-fueled school buses, increasing distance from schools for firearms businesses, capital grant funding, school safety funds, involvements with public office candidates, and finances in school board elections.
Fairview School Board President Mary Anne Brown was to attend the convention to relay the board’s opinions on each of the resolutions. The board discussed most of them and decided they were neutral on the Miller Ratio, approved the alternative-fuel school buses, and approved the increased distance for firearms businesses.
"So thank you for helping me through those," Brown told the board. "I'm really, really hoping since there's only three new ones and the rest the confirming that it won't take the three hours that it's done in the past, because I don't get to do anything else on the day except be the delegate. So here's hoping I can actually do something more constructive that day."
