In the wake of his election loss to Democrat incumbent Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Republican Bob Fioretti offered thanks to his supporters.
An attorney and Chicago native, Fioretti served as the city’s Ward 2 representative on council from 2007 to 2015, according to Ballotpedia. He made a bid for mayor in 2015 and the state senate the next year, according to the website.
"To all those who believed in our cause of safer communities, sound budgeting, and accountability, I am grateful,” he said in a post on Facebook. “To all those who helped the cause, in any way, I am grateful. Your vote, your willingness to put up a yard sign, your outreach, it is all appreciated. We may have lost the battle, but I will always work to make our corner of the world a better place. Thank you"
According to WTTW, Preckwinkle received 67% of the vote in securing her fourth term as president of the Cook County Board. She made an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 2019, according to the report, and despite having said she wouldn’t run again decided to make a bid to retain her post. In a Facebook post, she thanked voters for making their voices heard.
“I also want to thank the poll workers and officials who uphold and protect the integrity of our elections,” she said in the social media post. “I'm inspired by the fact that we all come together every election cycle to support and honor our democracy. It's a sacred commitment that we renew each time, and I'm grateful to be able to represent Cook County for the next four years."
During her new term, Preckwinkle told WTTW that she hopes to focus on the county’s guaranteed income program, the latest such program in the country, according to the report.
