Chris Dargis won the five-way GOP primary for Illinois’ 8th Congressional District and will take on Democratic incumbent Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi in November.

Dargis expressed his gratitude to his supporters in a Facebook post.

"THANK YOU!!! I am incredibly honored to have won the Republican nomination to be the next Congressman for the 8th district," Dargis said. "Thank you to all that have supported my campaign and thank you to my fellow Republican competitors who also were committed to bettering the lives of the people of the district. I look forward to working together over the next five months to fight for Illinois families and win in November!"

With about 62.5% of the votes counted, Dargis has a healthy lead with 31.9% of the vote in the field comprised of candidates Karen Kolodziej of Itasca, Chad Koppie of Gilberts, Peter Kopsaftis of South Barrington and Phillip Owen Wood of Carol Stream. Dargis will draw on his background as a Navy officer, engineer and businessman to tackle two massive problems of the Democrats’ making: Inflation and crime, the Daily Herald reported.

The Daily Herald endorsed candidate Dargis in the Republican primary for Illinois’ 8th Congressional District because it feels he has the chance to unseat Krishnamoorthi in November. The paper said his eloquent way of explaining Republican policy along with his financial backing makes him the best choice, according to Patch. Dargis recognizes this election will be a challenge but believes he is best equipped to fight the radical Biden/Krishnamoorthi agenda that has brought about high inflation and a recession on the horizon.

Dargis believes that American energy independence is crucial for both national security and prosperity. He will use his experience as a nuclear engineer to fight for common-sense energy policies to reduce the cost of energy and fuel the economy. He recognizes the burden that inflation is putting on Illinois families and vows to fight to stop it. Dargis opposes the “Defund the Police” agenda and will fight to train and fund law enforcement in order to keep communities safe.
