The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an improvement project will require a full closure on Northwest Highway (U.S. 14), between Nicholas Drive and Western Avenue beginning, weather permitting, 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 31 through late October. During that time, motorists should follow the posted detours.
The $5.7 million project, which consists of reconstructing and resurfacing the road, installing new sewer pipes, building retaining walls and constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, is expected to be completed in December.
Access to local residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
Please follow posted detours and seek alternative routes. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Please pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
