Citizens for Chris Dargis has issued the following press release:

Schaumburg, IL…Chris Dargis, Republican candidate for Illinois 8th District, recently called on current Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoothi to support the First Amendment and oppose President Biden’s new “Disinformation Governance Board,” designed to undermine basic constitutional rights protecting free speech.

“I will fight President Biden’s new Orwellian ‘Ministry of Truth’ also known as the Disinformation Governance Board,” said Dargis.  “The term ‘disinformation’ is nothing more than a political label for speech that the radical left wing in this country disagrees with, and the Biden Administration’s creation of a government agency designed to police free speech and encourage censorship is an attack on our fundamental values as Americans.” 

The Biden Administration, supported by Rep. Krishnamoothi, announced through the Department of Homeland Security that it was creating a Disinformation Governance Board, whose role would be to police online content.  Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified before Congress that the Board had recently been created to combat “online disinformation” days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchased Twitter.

“I ask Rep. Krishnamoothi to join with me to support the first amendment and the bedrock freedom of American democracy, the right to free speech and the opposition to government censorship of speech,” Dargis added. “If elected I will sponsor legislation to end this egregious intrusion on our free speech rights.”

Dargis, who served as a Naval Intelligence Officer and studied the abuse of human rights and the control of free speech in the former Soviet Union and other despotic countries, supports the free expression of ideas across the ideological spectrum and opposes the government censoring or otherwise controlling free speech.

“No matter where you sit on the ideological spectrum, the idea that the U.S. government will have some kind of czar to determine its version of the truth is scary,” said Dargis.  “We are all Americans and we have the right to express our opinion without fear of Big Brother looking over our shoulder.”
