Sunset Ridge School District 29 is mandating sixth graders wear masks again.
The move comes despite several judicial rulings noting the practice’s unconstitutionality and a lack of academic evidence that the devices work.
“As per Dr. Stange's communication regarding recent COVID-19 cases, there is currently an increased concentration of positive cases in sixth grade,” Sunset Ridge School District 29 announced. “Per the current District 29 COVID-19 Mitigation Plan, the District no longer performs individual contact tracing. We are taking extra precautions with mitigation strategies per the recommendation of the health department. We ask that you continue to monitor your child for symptoms, and contact me as soon as possible if they develop.”
According to the school district, students and staff in sixth grade are also strongly encouraged to participate in testing twice per week until there would be 10 consecutive days without a positive case.
“Given the specifics of these cases, the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) is: 1. MANDATING that students and staff in the impacted sixth grade wear a face covering until we have 10 consecutive days without a positive case; PLEASE SEND YOUR STUDENT IN A MASK BEGINNING TOMORROW, MAY 3."
Sunset Ridge School District 29 is headed by superintendent Edward J. Stange. Stange makes $239,790 in base salary per year, according to govsalaries.com.
Awake Illinois activist Shannon Adcock has demanded Carmen Ayala's resignation, the commissioner of the Illinois State Board of Education, citing her support for masking despite evidence that it makes learning more difficult. Adcock spoke to the Illinois State Board of Education on April 20 and reminded the board that she had previously warned them that its actions disguising children and demanding vaccines were unlawful, Prairie State Wire reported.
Sunset Ridge School District 29 has 207 enrollees at Middlefork Primary School with an 11:1 student-teacher ratio and 267 students at Sunset Ridge Elementary School which has an 8:1 student-teacher ratio, according to U.S. News.
