City of Des Plaines issued the following announcement on Aug. 26
Governor Pritzker announced a statewide indoor mask mandate for all Illinois residents, regardless of vaccination status, as COVID-19 cases and hospitalization rates continue to increase — effective Monday, Aug. 30. (Cook County implemented an indoor mask requirement earlier this month).
While the increased cases and stricter mitigations are disappointing, there is good news! The FDA granted full approval to Pfizer/BioNTech’s COVID19 vaccine for people 16 and older. The FDA press release highlighted:
“The public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product.”
While vaccines remain our best ‘shot’ at beating COVID, wearing a mask protects yourself and others.
The CDC’s changing mask guidance has been confusing for many people. The CDC recommended that fully vaccinated people start wearing masks recently after an increasing number of breakthrough cases (due to the Delta variant) in people who were vaccinated. The CDC found that community masking leads to fewer diagnosed cases and reduces the likelihood of contracting the virus.
