issued the following announcement on June 25

On June 23, 2021, Village President Rodney S. Craig and the Hanover Park Village Board were pleased to celebrate and announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Ontarioville Plaza as part of the new Village Center. The event was held on-site at the Ontarioville Plaza and featured welcoming remarks by Village President Rodney S. Craig and comments by members of staff and the design team responsible for the project.

The goal of the project is to re-imagine the future of the Village Center to diversify land uses with a variety of new housing types, as well as enhanced retail, public spaces and entertainment uses. The project is intended to ‘jump-start’ development interest, in addition to providing tangible/visible improvements.  Creating an active, vibrant Village Center was a key goal of the plans. A central tenet to reinvigorating this area was the establishment of a well-connected public open space system linking the Ontarioville Park to a beautiful new Ontarioville Plaza so that these open spaces become the hubs of activity for day to day gathering and community-wide events.

The following Village Center Streetscape improvements were installed:

  • The new public plaza and park for community events, new sidewalks for better pedestrian connections, new landscaping, lighting, and ‘streetscape’ for pedestrian comfort have all been installed.
  • The main collector road, Ontarioville/Devon has been reconstructed.
  • A new public parking lot has been installed following acquisition and demolition of a vacant building.
  • The burial of overhead wires was completed.
New landscaping, brick pavers, seat walls, stage area, decorative Tivoli lighting and an interactive water feature are ready to welcome Hanover Park families and friends! A new public parking lot, a redesigned park with gazebo, sidewalks and several features for ‘pedestrian comfort’ offer opportunities for families to gather in the heart of our community.

The Village of Hanover Park encourages all members of the community and the public to visit and enjoy this new addition to Hanover Park.
