In the world of local politics, the 2000s continue to belong to Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod.
With all the village’s 29 precincts counted from Election Day on April 6, McLeod, who was first elected in 2000, owned 58% of the vote in his run against challengers Mark Mueller and Nicholas Waryas.
“Thank you to the people of Hoffman Estates,” McLeod posted on Facebook. “I love this town and the people who live here. It has been my home since 1978. It is a privilege to serve you. I will continue to work in the only way I know, all in. Thank you to my wife Joane, who ran the campaign, the trustees and clerk who all worked so hard. The many volunteers, and you, the people of Hoffman Estates, who put their trust in me. I will never betray that trust.”
Vote tallies pegged McLeod’s vote count in the neighborhood of 2,913 votes, while Mueller had 2,036 votes and Waryas finished with 94 votes. Local officials said those tallies did not account for ballots postmarked by Tuesday that arrive at election offices by April 20 as well as provisional ballots and early votes.
Prior to being elected mayor, McLeod served two decades as a village trustee. Throughout the campaign, he touted his experience in government as being a plus for the community.
