Arlington Heights Park District issued the following announcement on Feb 1.
The Arlington Heights Park District (AHPD) last week received two awards for outstanding commitment and service to parks and recreation from the Illinois Park & Recreation Association (IPRA). AHPD Aquatic Manager Lindsey Robertson received the Young Professional Award, which is given to one Illinois parks and recreation professional who made a significant impact in their community in the past year; and AHPD Commissioner Brian Owen received the Rising Star Award, which is given to an up-and-coming board member who demonstrates exemplary performance in duties and responsibilities.
“These awards represent important achievements for our agency,” said AHPD Executive Director Carrie Fullerton. “Lindsey’s drive and love for parks and recreation permeates everything she does, and Board members regularly look to Brian for his expertise and experience in all current and future financial matters. I am truly proud of the work Lindsey, Brian and the rest of our team contribute in making us better stewards and leaders in our community.”
In 2020, Robertson worked collaboratively across departments to safely open four pools to residents and manage a safe swim team program that garnered 940 registrations. She also created and managed a registration system at the Arlington Ridge Center (ARC), which facilitated 35,354 reservations. Through her time at AHPD since 2013, Robertson has managed five outdoor and one indoor pool and its programs, and nearly 300 lifeguards and another 100 part-time staff, impacting tens of thousands of Arlington Heights residents.
Commissioner Owen’s strong background in finance has been a huge asset to the AHPD since he was elected in 2019. This past year he helped lead AHPD to become a finalist for the National Gold Medal Award. He has also been actively engaged in the Park Foundation and regularly pursues continuing education opportunities.
Additionally, the Park District was again recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) on November 30, 2020, which granted AHPD Director of Finance & Personnel Jason S. Myers the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, marking the 19th time AHPD has earned the honor. To qualify for the award, government agencies must create a fiscal strategy that meets program criteria and succeeds as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.
