City of Des Plaines issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.

The City of Des Plaines is pleased to announce the appointment of David Anderson as its next Police Chief, replacing Chief Bill Kushner, who will be retiring in December 2020.

"After a competitive nationwide search and interviewing a number of candidates for the position, it was Dave’s transformational leadership focused on integrating the police department’s mission with the overall vision, mission, and objectives of the community that clearly made him our candidate of choice,” stated City Manager Bartholomew. “We welcome his ideas and recommendations for enhancing our organization.”

Chief Anderson comes to Des Plaines with extensive career experience as a professional in law enforcement. The Chief has over 20 years of service to the Village of Lisle and their Police Department where he steadily rose through the ranks. Anderson is currently Chief of Police at Benedictine University.

Anderson is a passionate advocate for community policing, transparency in law enforcement, and the development of law enforcement leaders though training and open communication.

In addition to Chief Anderson’s professional credentials, he has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Aurora University and a Master’s Degree in Management and Organizational Behavior from Benedictine University, where he is currently enrolled in a doctoral program.

Chief Anderson is expected to assume his duties with the Des Plaines Police Department on December 14, 2020, where he will work with Chief Kushner to facilitate a smooth transition.

"It is an honor to be given the opportunity to serve the Des Plaines community alongside the fine officers of the police department. I'm looking forward to meeting community members and supporting the strong service model of the City of Des Plaines,” said Anderson.

Please join us in welcoming Chief Anderson to the City of Des Plaines community. We also thank Chief Kushner for his dedication and contributions to the City of Des Plaines over the last eight years.
