Lake Park Community High School District 108 issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.
Dear Lancer Families,
Lake Park High School appreciates your partnership to support remote learning for your student. We understand that families are juggling the competing demands of work, family, and online education. The purpose of this message is to share important updates on the continuation of our remote learning model due to COVID-19 transmission.
Remote Learning Continues Through First Quarter
Due to guidance from DuPage County Health Department (DCHD), we have made the difficult decision to postpone the start of the in-person hybrid learning model due to the number of COVID-19 cases in our region. We anticipate that fully remote learning will continue through the end of the first quarter that ends on Friday, October 16. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 metrics released weekly by the state and county and provide an update to families before the end of the quarter. In the short term, read below for plans we are making to deliver on-campus supports for students.
New On-Campus Supports for Students
We know the necessity to stay home during the remote learning model may cause hardships for families. In order to support your efforts, a number of changes will be implemented. Starting Monday, September 21, the following on-campus programs will be provided:
- Students in our Pathways, NDSEC Academic Life Skills, and Transition programs will receive in-person instruction. The return of these special education students to campus is allowed under the current guidance due to the very small number of students in these classes who learn together as a small cohort for the entire school day.
- A limited number of students in need of reliable internet access and/or a quiet workspace will be allowed to return to campus to conduct their remote learning on-site. Large open spaces in our gymnasiums and cafeterias will be made available to students for remote learning on-campus. Students will not receive direct instruction from their teachers. Instead, students will have a quiet space where they can focus on their remote lessons, similar to a study hall atmosphere, and still be in compliance with DCHD COVID-19 guidance. Transportation will be available. Follow this link for more information and to register.
On August 28, the DCHD released supplementary guidance related to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) metrics. The new guidance establishes three levels of community risk based on a variety of factors including weekly cases, positivity rates, and rate of community spread; the color-coded levels include Minimal (yellow), Moderate (orange) and Substantial (red). DuPage County is currently in the “Moderate/Orange” level. As such, Lake Park is following a Fully Remote Learning schedule with limited on-site programs. Please click for an FAQ about the metrics and how they relate to when we may be able to return for in-person learning at Lake Park. The metrics will be updated by the DCHD every Friday. To view the current metrics, visit https://www.dupagehealth.org/595/Schools-and-Daycares and select “DuPage County COVID-19 School Metrics (PDF)” on the top left.
Please Help Us!
Our collective diligence following all precautions as a community can have a direct impact on the prospects of returning to in-person learning. Families are strongly urged to not have social gatherings at their home or elsewhere in the community. We ask Lake Park families to adhere to social distancing guidelines, wear a face mask in public, wash hands, and stay home when sick to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
In the meantime, we are committed to delivering the highest quality remote learning experience possible. We appreciate your input last week on the Fully Remote Learning Survey. School leaders are processing this valuable feedback that will help us improve our current learning model and make plans for the future.
