Veteran state Rep. Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) has been awarded the Champion of Free Enterprise Award by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber rated all members of the 101st General Assembly based on their voting records on critical business legislation as determined by staff and the Illinois Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee. The award is presented to legislators who have gone above and beyond insuring the furtherance of economic opportunities for local residents.

Now in his ninth year of serving as the face of the 54th District, Morrison seems to view it as all in a day’s work.

"I'm committed to doing whatever I can to support Illinois businesses," Morrison told the North Cook News. "They provide the necessary jobs and benefits for Illinois residents. Without a healthy private sector state and local government won’t have the resources needed to provide all of its services. Illinois has been hamstrung by many ill-thought policies, but it remains an economic powerhouse in the Midwest and around the world because of its innovators, industries, and talented, hard-working people."

The Champion of Free Enterprise Awards are given every two-years to members posting Illinois Chamber ratings of 85% or better over the previous two General Assemblies along with demonstrating a firm commitment to the entrepreneurial spirit.

“Rep. Morrison is a collaborative legislator who fights for a better Illinois,” Illinois Chamber President and CEO Todd Maisch said. “He works across party lines to get things done to improve the business climate in his district and Illinois as a whole. We are proud to recognize his contributions to free enterprise in Illinois.”

Now running against Democrat Maggie Trevor in November, Morrison serves on such House committees as Elementary & Secondary Education, Personnel & Pensions Committee and the Human Services Committee.
