City of Evanston issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.

Mayor Stephen Hagerty, members of the Evanston City Council, and the City’s Water Production Bureau joined Lincolnwood officials on Thursday to celebrate the Village's transition to Evanston drinking water.

A ceremony at Lincolnwood’s water pump house, 6441 Crawford Ave., marked the completion of a project several years in the making and the beginning of the sale of Evanston drinking water to Lincolnwood’s 12,500 residents. Lincolnwood is the 10th community to be supplied with water by the City of Evanston.

“This project is a win-win for both of our communities,” said Mayor Hagerty. “Not only will this new water connection supply Lincolnwood residents with fresh, clean drinking water and lower water rates, it will provide the City of Evanston with a steady stream of revenue for the next 39 years or more. I’m proud that our City partnered with Lincolnwood on this important project.”

The Evanston City Council approved a 39-year water supply agreement with the Village of Lincolnwood in August 2018. The City officially began supplying the Village with Evanston drinking water on August 1, 2020 following the construction of a new water transmission main. It is anticipated that the project will generate an additional $500,000 in annual revenue for the City.

In completing the project, Lincolnwood became Evanston’s second new wholesale water customer in the last two years, after Evanston began selling water to the Morton Grove - Niles Water Commission in 2019. Evanston now provides drinking water to more than 400,000 customers in 10 communities, including Evanston, Skokie, the Northwest Water Commission (Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Wheeling and Des Plaines), the Morton Grove - Niles Water Commission (Morton Grove and Niles) and the Village of Lincolnwood.
