Schaumburg Township Highway Commissioner Scott Kegarise is running for the 56th state House District seat that has been held for almost a decade by Democrat Michelle Mussman.
According to an Arlington Heights' newspaper report, Kegarise told the Daily Herald that he was recruited "by local GOP officials" to run for Mussman's seat when no Republican candidate filed before the primaries in March, the news story said.
Kegarise, who has lived in Schaumburg Township since 1979, is in his first term as township highway commissioner following two terms as a board trustee, according to his bio on the township's website. Kegarise has for the past 30 years been on the Schaumburg Athletic Association, is vice president of the Young Sportsman Soccer League, and is a Schaumburg Jaycees past president.
Kegarise and his wife of 43 years, Charlotte, have three grown children.
Mussman, who refers to herself on her campaign website as "mom on a mission," has represented the district since Jan. 12, 2011. She narrowly hung onto her seat in 2018, defeating her Republican challenger Jim Moynihan by 647 votes.
The 56th state House District includes all or parts of Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Roselle, Hoffman Estates, Hanover Park, Rolling Meadows and Bloomingdale.
