GLENCOE PARK DISTRICT: Summer Care program restructured to prioritize safety

Camp

Glencoe Park District issued the following announcement on May 20.

The Glencoe Park District has made the decision to restructure our summer camp program. After evaluating the many concerns of parent responses shared in our camp survey, we have created a Back to Basics Summer Care program for children aged 3-12 years old. This scaled-back version of summer camp will be a full-day option for families currently enrolled in camps and planned in accordance with CDC and state guidelines.

The Back to Basics Summer Care program will begin on Monday, July 6, allowing us time to implement new safety protocols. It will offer outdoor fun, nature digs, kitchen experiments, yard games, obstacle courses, and time with friends. Care is available Monday-Friday from 7 AM-6:30 PM until Friday, July 31. Families not interested in this redesigned program will be given a household credit and the option of a full refund.

The Summer Care plan includes specific drop-off and pick-up times. Children will be placed in assigned groups of no more than 10 children that would never mix with any other group. Our staff will wear masks, do temperature checks in the morning, and sanitize toys. Additionally, our maintenance staff will deep clean rooms used and high-touch areas daily. To learn more about what Back to Basic Summer Care will look like and all safety precautions in place, visit our Summer Care Safety Protocols page.

Children will need to be re-registered for the Summer Care program. We ask that families enroll their children only if they need full-time care due to work, as space is limited. Openings are reserved exclusively for families who have already signed up for camp.

Registration for the Summer Care program will be held on three different dates. Priority will be given to Glencoe residents who are currently enrolled in our extended day programs. Residents with children enrolled in half-day camps, specialty camps, Sailing and Aquatics, and traditional camps will be the next group able to enroll their children, followed by non-residents. Registrations will be on a first-come, first-served basis on the assigned dates.

Below are the new registration dates:

  • Glencoe residents with children enrolled in our extended day programs, 7 AM-6:30 PM, 7 AM-3 PM, or 8:45 AM-6:30 PM. Registration will open Wednesday, May 27 at 9 AM.
  • Glencoe residents with children enrolled in camp from 9 AM-3 PM, half-day preschool camps, and Sailing and Aquatics camps. Registration will open Monday, June 1 at 9 AM.
  • Non-residents with children enrolled in any camp programs. Registration will open Wednesday, June 3 at 9 AM.
Our program managers will reach out to notify you of your assigned registration date and a link to sign up on your assigned day. Registration will not be available via Webtrac. If you are a resident and have one child in our extended day program and one or more children in other camps, you will be able to enroll all of your children on Wednesday, May 27.The cost for residents per child for the July session is $1,400 for preschoolers and $1,200 for children ages 6-12. The non-resident rate for preschoolers is $1,540 and $1,320 for youth. There is no sibling discount. We will likely follow the same protocols in August with registration preference to those enrolled in our July Summer Care program.

As restrictions ease further in the summer, we will look to offer options for children enrolled in our Action Quest and Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program.

If you would prefer a refund to your credit card instead of your Park District household account, please email Lauren Kinsey, Registration/Customer Service Manager, at lkinsey@glencoeparkdistrict.com. Refunds will be given in full. Credit card refunds will take place after all refunds are complete and first put to your household. Requests may take us up to ten business days to process.

Please know, we have made these decisions based on the safety of our community and staff, our responsibility to our taxpayers, and local and state-wide orders.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this new COVID-19 world. Please continue to look for updates from us via email, social media, and on our homepage.
