ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 19: LaPointe Promotes Utility Bill Relief for Working Families Affected by COVID-19

Coronavirus update920

Illinois State House District 19 issued the following announcement on May 12.

State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, D-Chicago, is promoting the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to support families in need during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

“This unprecedented health crisis has put a lot of Illinoisans out of work, and many families can no longer afford to pay for their utilities,” said LaPointe. “That is why I want to raise awareness about our state’s utility bill assistance to help our families during this difficult time.”

LaPointe is promoting the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help families impacted by the pandemic. By state order, utility companies have suspended disconnections and late fees. Members in areas served by ComEd can note that ComEd recently announced they would extend this moratorium on disconnections through the end of June. Additionally, the period to apply for LIHEAP funding has been extended until June 30. For more information on the application process, please visit the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity website.

“These resources will help ensure our families can access the utilities they need to get through this crisis,” LaPointe said. “No matter their material circumstances, every family is deserving of empathy and care.”
