City of Evanston issued the following announcement on May 7.
To help ease the significant financial burden on local restaurants struggling during the coronavirus pandemic, the Evanston City Council has adopted a resolution establishing limits for fees charged to restaurants by third-party food delivery providers.
The resolution, which was approved by City Council on April 27, limits the amount that third-party delivery services, such as GrubHub or DoorDash, can charge an Evanston restaurant to no more than 15 percent of the purchase price for online orders.
Many restaurants are struggling to stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. The City encourages residents to support local businesses by:
- Carrying out or ordering in from local restaurants by contacting them directly. A list of businesses offering carry out and delivery can be found at evanstonedge.com/keep-calm-carry-out.
- Giving the gift of business by purchasing a gift card to be used at a later date.
- Purchasing a raffle ticket through Downtown Evanston’s “Keep Evanston Awesome Raffle.” Raffle tickets can be purchased at go.rallyup.com/keepevanstonawesome.
- Donating to a small business emergency loan fund managed by Lending for Evanston and Northwestern Development (LEND) at lendevanston.org/donate.
