Illinois State House District 19 issued the following announcement on May 7.
State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, D-Chicago, is promoting the state Attorney General’s Workplace Rights Bureau to ensure the safety of essential workers during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
“Essential workers continue to put their lives on the line in the fight against COVID-19, and we must act to ensure every workplace is adhering to the guidelines set by medical experts,” said LaPointe. “That is why I want to raise awareness of this resource so that employees can report any public health violations they witness or experience on the job.”
LaPointe is promoting the Workplace Rights Bureau through the state Attorney General’s office. Beginning on May 1, essential businesses and manufacturers are required to provide face-coverings to all employees who are not able to maintain six-feet of social distancing. The state plans additional requirements for these businesses, as well, including occupancy limits and staggering shifts to ensure best social distancing practices are being followed. Employees can report violations that put their safety at risk by calling the Attorney General’s Workplace Rights Bureau at 844-740-5076 or emailing workplacerights@atg.state.il.us.
“This hotline will help protect the public’s health by holding businesses accountable if they behave irresponsibly and put workers in danger,” said LaPointe. “No amount of profit is worth the health or safety of our essential workers.”
