ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 54: Morrison Promotes ‘Helping Hands’ in 54th District Community

54

Illinois State House District 54 issued the following announcement on April 1

Palatine—In response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) has launched a program to help those in need in his 54th District. The Representative has recruited Helping Hands volunteers in the community to shop for and deliver groceries or other essential items to seniors or others who cannot or should not leave their homes.

According to Morrison, with the continued spread of coronavirus, his program is aimed at keeping seniors healthy, as they are at an increased risk of contracting the virus.

Public health officials recommend that seniors in particular should avoid places where they may unwittingly come in contact with the virus, either on surfaces or by individuals who are asymptomatic but spreading the virus. “For the next month, at least, we want to help seniors or others at-risk to remain healthy by avoiding places like grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, etc. We have an ample group of volunteers ready and willing to lend a hand to those in need,” Morrison said.

As Governor Pritzker recently extended the statewide Stay at Home executive order, Rep. Morrison wants his program to be a resource especially to those who do not have family nearby or able neighbors available. “The 54th district is strong and charitable. I appreciate the volunteers who are doing so much for this program and others within the community to look out for one another and help each other make it through this crisis,” Morrison said.

Rep. Morrison encourages senior citizens or other at-risk individuals who need groceries or other essential items to contact his office for assistance at (847) 202-6584. Healthy volunteers who want to participate are also welcome to contact the Representative’s office by phone or email at morrison@ilhousegop.org.
