City of Des Plaines issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.
"Lock It or Lose It" is a national crime prevention program intended to remind drivers to lock their cars and roll up their windows to prevent becoming a victim of car thieves.
While most vehicle burglaries happen in residential areas, drivers should never leave their cars running and unattended wherever they are parked. The Lock It or Lose It program has proven that people who take these simple precautions actually help dramatically reduce vehicular burglaries in their communities.
