City of Prospect Heights Fire/Police Commission met  May 29.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

CALL TO ORDER At 4:06 PM, Chairman Hoffman called to order the Regular Meeting of the Fire Police Commission at City Hall, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070.

ROLL CALL - Deputy Clerk Schultheis called roll. A quorum was present.

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT – Chairman Hoffman, Commissioners Meyer and Fiorito

OTHER OFFICIALS PRESENT – Police Chief Zawlocki, Deputy Chief Porlier, Executive Assistant Batten, and Deputy Clerk Schultheis

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A. April 24, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes – Commissioner Meyer moved to approve the April 24, 2019 regular Meeting Minutes as amended; seconded by Chairman Hoffman. There was unanimous approval.

VOICE VOTE: All Ayes, no nays.

Motion carried 3 – 0

CLOSED SESSION – If needed – No call for Executive Session RETURN TO OPEN SESSION - Action on Executive Items, if required

OLD BUSINESS – Chief Zawlocki said that he had been told by the superintendent that there were not enough students to warrant a light or crossing guard at Schoenbeck. Chief Zawlocki discussed signage with the City Engineer, who in turn has tried to contact IDOT. Commissioner Meyer felt that the response of the District was inadequate. The Commissioners would like to see the parents get more involved and get their opinion. The Police will get some triangle signage out.

NEW BUSINESS

A.Reappointment of Commissioner Fiorito – Chief Zawlocki noted that Commissioner Fiorito had been reappointed by the Council for another term at the May 13, 2019 Workshop Meeting.

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATE Chairman Hoffman will be giving the Annual Report at the June 10, 2019 City Council

Workshop Meeting.

- There was a fire at Quincy park in which Officer Yanke was injured and has been off from duty for almost a month.

- Cop on the Top was held at the Dunkin’ Donuts on May 17th to raise money for Special Olympics. $1900 was raised. The Police were there from 5 AM – 10 AM

- Community Days will be held on June 1 from 9 AM – Noon. The Police will have an Open House and K-9 demonstration. The Lions Club has their pancake breakfast.

- Special Olympics Torch Run on June 2nd in which officers participate. It begins at 9:30 AM

- There is a multi-board meeting on June 18th on 6PM at Old Orchard – the school board, Park Districts, libraries, the City board and all different groups to meet each other. Commissioner Meyer said that he would attend.

- June 13th is the Police Golf Outing

- June 14th I the first Outreach event – Government Day. The kids ride their bikes and stop at City Hall.

CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS - Chief Zawlocki said that the Police Department had received a letter from PETA commending Officer Smith for rescuing a duck.

- New recruits are doing well. They will be ready to be on their own the second week of July.

- The Police Department is on number ten on the eligibility list. Several officers have been hired that were on the list. There is no one on the lateral list.

- Lara Batten has been hired as the new Police Department Community Liaison.

NEXT REGULAR MEETING – June 26, 2019 at City Hall Council Chambers, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070 at 4 PM - Commissioner Fiorito will not be available on that date.

ADJOURNMENT - At 4:23 PM, Chairman Hoffman moved to Adjourn; seconded by Commissioner Fiorito. There was unanimous approval.

VOICE VOTE: All Ayes, no nays.

Motion carried 3 – 0
