Community Consolidated School District 59 issued the following announcement on July 24.
A new school year always brings excitement, and the first taste of it in CCSD59 can always be found at Ridge. On Wednesday, students and families wore big smiles and gathered around their new teachers, exchanging high fives and hugs after a busy summer.
Students could be heard swapping travel stories, experiences from summer camps, and everything else they had been up to. Some took part in summer school programs, while others had curled up with books during some of the hottest days.
Although they enjoyed the summer, many children expressed excitement about the first day back at school.
“It’s one of the best days of the school year because it’s a lot of fun and I like how free it is,” said Jacob, a fifth grade student.
“Free” alludes to the fun schedule that is laid out to ease students back into the school year. Parents are traditionally invited to learn more about what the staff has in store for students in the coming year and are welcome to stay and have lunch.
Many children said they are excited about sharing classrooms with teachers they enjoy, spending time with their old friends, and making new ones.
“The excitement in the air from the kids is so huge,” said fifth grade teacher Beth Soreng. “It’s great to see how excited they are, and with my team, I can’t wait to see where our adventure is going to take us this year.”
