NORTHBROOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT 27: Hickory Point Students Helping Mother Nature

Trees

Northbrook Elementary School District 27 recently issued the following announcement.

Hickory Point students have spent the week learning about Mother Nature and helping her along by planting flowers and creating paver stones.

Kindergarten and first grade students worked on planting flowers and plants around the school that would attract butterflies and other pollinators. Second graders decorated pavers with colorful stones. The pavers will be placed among those made by other students in the area near the Hickory Point sign to keep foot traffic from trampling delicate plants and soil.

The planting and paver project is sponsored by the Hickory Point PTA’s Environmental Committee. Members of the committee spoke to each class about composting and the need for good soil to plant flowers and attract beneficial insects and animals.

Stop by Hickory Point and see the work by our environmentally-conscious students!
