Former state university employee Blair paid in $6K to pension fund, could collect $83K in retirement

Former state university employee Yvonne Blair, who retired in August 2017, saved $6,198 toward a pension over 12 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Blair would collect as much as $82,826, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes North Cook News.

The projection assumes Blair received $1,740 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Blair will have already received $7,279 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
