Despite having recently been censured by the Rolling Meadows City Council, 3rd Ward Alderman Joe Gallo beat current Mayor Len Prejna and two other candidates in Tuesday's election.

In the four-way race, Gallo took 35.69 percent of the vote (994); fellow Alderman John D'Astice garnered 25.28 percent (704); Planning and Zoning Commission Vice Chairman David C. Whitney received 21.15 percent (589) and incumbent Prejna was dead last with 17.88 percent (498), according to the Cook County Clerk.

Gallo, who came under fire for filing grant paperwork without city council approval, was recently censured by the council for allegedly verbally harassing another alderman.

There are 20,112 registered voters in Rolling Meadows, but turnout was only 13.94 percent with 2,804 ballots cast.
