The Northwestern University football team placed a record-setting 60 players on the Academic All-Big 10 Team.
In a media release posted to the school’s website on Dec.5, school officials said that 118 NU athletes in all earned such honors, including 15 from the field hockey program.
School officials added of the 73 percent of NU student athletes recognized for such honors, Chad Hanaoka of football, and Madi Kennel and Nikia Smith from women’s soccer, were among 36 Big Ten student-athletes saluted for flawless 4.0 grade point averages.
To qualify the team, student-athletes are required to post a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA and be in at least their second year of study.
