Retired Township HSD 214 employee Gary Alperin saved $210,224 toward his pension over 30 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.
Over 35 years of retirement, Alperin would collect as much as $5.974 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes North Cook News.
Alperin, 60, who currently lives in Hoffman Estates, earned $142,448 in his final year at Township HSD 214.
The projection assumes Alperin will receive 65 percent of that total - $92,579 - in his first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.
After three years of retirement, Alperin will have already received $286,152 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of his contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.
ISBE reported that 65.5 percent of Township HSD 214 graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
