Niles Township Community High School District 219 students suspended 386 times in a single school year

Niles Township Community High School District 219 reported 386 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 386 students during the year. That equates to 8.4 percent of the 4,587 students enrolled.

Of the 262 in-school suspensions, 177 were given to boys and 85 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 233 incidents. There were 21 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 254 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 124 out-of-school suspensions, 94 were given to boys and 30 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 80 incidents. There were 21 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 41 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
